GMIF 2009: The Minors Lab

Students have the opportunity to prepare two events while at the GMIF. A student's Major event is their primary focus and the expectation is they will leave the Institute with that event "tournament ready."

Minor events get less attention and students should expect to leave the Institute with that event mostly ready (e.g. the oratory may be written but not yet memorized).

Major/minor options are only allowed within areas. For example, within Interp, students can easily major in Dramatic Interpretation and minor in Humorous Interpretation; within Extemp, students can minor in Extemp Commentary, Impromptu, or Student Congress . A sampling of potential minors:

Interp: HI, DI, Prose, Poetry, Duo

Limited Prep: Extemporaneous, Impromptu, Commentary, Student Congress, Public Forum

Oratory: Expos, Declamation
